在14日晚板房子派出所所长刘兴智返回搜救指挥部时，将在遇难现场拍摄的胶卷及遇难者的遗物一并带下了山。经检查，遇难者华峥嵘生前留有登山日志，并在迷路被困后，随身留下了最后的绝笔。在行程日志中记载了他的第一天经历。华峥嵘是在5月2日下午开始从厚畛子镇的铁甲树登山口只身徒步攀登太白山。第一次受挫是在冲刺南天门时，他写到：“天一下黑下来，往前的路一下子没有了。虽有头灯，但略微只能览其一斑……好像前面的路随着天黑，一下子都成了悬崖峭壁……原来半天的路程只走出了1小时……”在华峥嵘随身携带的一个小黄本上记录下了他在遇难前留下的最后绝笔：“我不知道我会怎样，虽然我坚信我会坚持下去……或许这里就是……我想你……我的兄弟朋友们，游牧人的朋友们，luckking（华峥嵘的网名）在这里祝你们都好运！爸妈你们保重！”“今天起山顶上又大雪重重，浓重的雾水夹杂着小冰薄（雹），前面的路也看不清，我又迷路了，而且在爬那……”笔迹也越来越淡，时间大概在5月5日左右。从中可以判断出，华峥嵘确因在即将攀登太白山主峰时，突遇暴风雪后迷失方向，在弃失了自己背包的情况下，终因冻饿不支而发生不幸。一个健壮并有着坚强毅力的年轻人，就这样令人痛心地消逝在了太白山顶那茫茫的风雪之中……
搜救指挥部将遇难者的遗物一一造册登记，为最后向其家属移交做好准备。根据气象观察，太白山顶恶劣天气于15日凌晨逐渐好转，这给救援工作带来了转机。同时，第四、五批救援人员已于14日下午将给养送达被困人员营地，使得被困山上多日的搜救人员情况已有所改善。搜救指挥部决定于15日清晨派出第六批搜救人员梯次跟进，继续上山援助。从铁甲树至太白山顶的正常登山时间需两天，而这其中的部分搜救人员已是在5天里第三次顶风冒雪，冒死往返太白山顶，其壮举不能不让人为之动容！
而几乎在同一时刻，已在药王店营地坚守了5天的搜救人员，在清晨见太白山顶的云雾渐渐散去，所有人员立即向遇难者遗体现场冲刺攀爬。终于在当天早晨8点45分抵达，随即用早已扎好的简易担架将遇难者的遗体固定好后进行搬运。四十余名搜救队员为了尽快将遇难者的遗体运下山去，使遇难者家属悲伤的心得到抚慰，他们踩着冰雪，踏着冰溜，从海拔三千六百多米的高山之巅，采用手歇，腿不歇的方法，充分利用天气好转的有利时机，在冰冷湿滑的山路上轮换着接力下山。在垂直高差近二千米，长达近三十公里且被雨雪浸润的山路上，四十余名搜救人员以惊人的毅力，经过12个小时艰苦努力于当晚8时整，终于将遇难者的遗体运送至山脚下的登山口——铁甲树。
当搜救指挥部全体人员赶到时，看到的是已筋疲力尽，横七竖八地倒卧在林中的搜救队员们。他们不少人都被冻伤、擦伤，身上的衣物除胸部以外均已湿透，此情此景，不能不令人肃然起敬。在坚守山上的5天里，他们亲眼目睹了身旁的一棵食指般粗细的树枝在几天的暴风雪中是如何变成胳膊般粗壮的冰柱的。他们所需忍受的不仅仅是恶劣的天气，他们还要忍受的是那种身处绝境的、更加令人恐惧的精神压力，这并非是每个人都可以做到的。
搜救指挥部为了尽量减轻已做出了重大贡献的厚畛子群众的负担，在留下部分人员处理遗留事宜后，决定于15日晚9时许，从太白山区全部撤离，并于16日凌晨2时将上海游客华峥嵘的遗体运回西安。
5月17日遇难者华峥嵘的家属、亲友在携带其骨灰返回上海的前夕，再次紧紧握住西安市公安局副局长、太白山搜救指挥部总指挥马中林的手，满含热泪地说：“西安人真好！西安警察真好！有机会还要到西安来。”而同样在上海市，始终在关注此次搜救活动的许多普通市民及华峥嵘的生前好友，在向遇难者表示沉痛哀悼的同时，对西安人民为此而做出的艰辛努力和表现出的无私忘我、以人民利益为己任的精神也表示了崇高敬意。遇难者华峥嵘的生前友人准备以其生前所使用的网名“luckking”的名义向厚畛子群众提供希望工程上的帮助，以表达沪陕两地人民的真情厚意！
以“太白飞雪六月天”闻名于世的绵绵太白山，记录下了这一不幸，但同时这场历时5天5夜、艰苦卓绝的太白山大搜救也将作为近年来西安市在太白山自然保护区所进行的规模最大、历时最长、组织最为严密的一次搜救活动及它所体现出大无畏的英雄主义、集体主义精神而载入史册。 （刘宠伟）
