珍稀植物驯化繁殖场：着重拯救太白山的濒危种、孑遗种和重要用材树种的下移驯化栽培。对高山植物的下移可采用“阶梯下移”的方式，逐步适应。为此可利用各处庙宇附近的荒地，由上而下设置过渡点――平安寺（2700米）、大殿（2300米）、上白云（1800米）、中山寺（1400米）、蒿坪寺与点兵场（1200米）。
（2）试验保护区：面积30300公顷，占自然保护区总面积的53.3%，包括了南海沟口、天上以西至鳌山的西部地区。这一区域的南北界一般都在海拔2000米以上，地势高亢，沟狭坡陡，河谷中巨石垒垒，通行困难。区内主要是巴山冷杉林和太白红杉林。可供群众副业生产的有松花竹、漆树、中草药和林麝等。在自然资源控制保护区内，在保护生态系统反馈能力范围内，容许群众进行割扫帚、挖药材、割漆等定量的副业生产活动。区内包括如下的绝对保护点、场：
1、珍稀植物保护点
白云峡羽叶丁香保护点；
白云峡、南天门太白米保护点；
鳌山顶、药王庙太白贝母保护点；
2、白起庙梁高山沼泽保护场：由多数大小不等的浅水沼泽组成，面积约225公顷。为高山地貌的特殊景观成分。
3、鳌山太白红杉林保护区：白起庙梁至娘娘池之间，为一广阔缓斜的扇形地带，面积9000公顷，全为太白红杉林所占据，是研究太白红杉的生态习性、林分结构、生长进程和演替规律最理想的场所和采种基地。
（3）教学实习和科学实验区：太白山历来为省内外有关大专院校、科研单位教学实习和专业考察的重要场所。以往皆以蒿坪寺至拔仙台为主要路线。但这一路线已划为自然垂直景观保护区，不再允许进行有害于物种繁衍和生态系统完整性的标本采集和动物捕猎活动。为了满足教学实习和科学实验的需要，将红河的大岔――放羊寺以下的地段划为教学实习和科学实验区，面积约1940公顷，占自然保护区总面积的3.4%，其最低点海拔的871米，最高点可达3100米。有人行道可通放羊寺，具较完整的植被垂直景观，动植物种类丰富，是良好的教学实习和科学实验的场所。
（四）保护措施
1、对全自然保护区的保护措施：
（1）树立界标明确境界范围：标明周界是保护工作的首要工作，标志务必明确醒目，标桩（牌）应为水泥制作，书明界向和界位，如太白山自然保护区南界，海拔1800米。在与社队所有林接壤处，要伐开一定宽度的隔离带，并在林木上书明标志。
（2）加强保护机构和保护技术设施：沿保护周界布设保护站和公安派出所；修建环区公路，增设防火瞭望台、观察站和通讯设施（见保护设施规划）。
2、对各类保护点的保护措施：保护点多为孤立的林木或小群聚，面积不大，除持牌标志外，应设刺丝围栏加以保护。
3、对典型林分的保护措施：在四周树立界标，在道路口树立标牌书明进入林内应注意事项。并在林内设置若干观察标准地，进行每木编号，定期观察林木的消长变化情况。
4、对冰斗湖的保护措施：一是树立标牌告示游人勿向湖内投掷石块，二是设置一定的护砌工程，防止岩石崩裂滚入湖内。
